    Marjane Satrapi (French:[maʁʒansatʁapi]; Persian: مرجان ساتراپی[mæɾˈdʒɒːn(e)sɒːtɾɒːˈpiː];[a] born 22 November 1969) is a French-Iranian[1][2]graphic novelist, cartoonist, illustrator, film director, and children's book author.

    Biography

    Satrapi was born in Iran.[4] She grew up in Tehran in an upper-middle class Iranian family and attended the French-language school Lycée Razi.[5][6] Both her parents were politically active and supported leftist causes against the monarchy of the last Shah.

    Her maternal great-grandfather, Nasser-al-Din Shah, was the Persian emperor from 1848
